Entering its 28th consecutive year, the awards are designed to recognise and reward the people, pride, and passion of the construction industry. Our nominations come as great news and are a warm recognition of the incredible work that everyone at ÌÇÐÄÔ´´vlog commits to our projects.

ÌÇÐÄÔ´´vlog has been shortlisted in the following award categories:

Low Carbon Project of the Year - Refurbishment of the National Cycling Centre, Manchester
Regeneration Project of the Year - The Interchange, Cardiff
Project of the Year (under £20m) - Knaresborough Leisure and Wellness Centre ( ÌÇÐÄÔ´´vlog with Alliance Leisure)

Low Carbon Project of the Year - National Cycling Centre, Manchester

Project Partners – Manchester City Council, MCRActive, GLL, British Cycling, North West Construction Hub, Waterman Building Services, Ellis Williams Architects, Ridge

ÌÇÐÄÔ´´vlog’s programme of refurbishment and modernisation of the National Cycling Centre in Manchester has been nominated for Low Carbon Project of the Year, a category that recognises projects that have achieved or exceeded its carbon goals and is an exemplar for low-carbon construction.

Our refurbishment project set a clear precedent in exceeding its carbon goals, achieving significant carbon reductions in line with Manchester’s 2038 zero carbon vision, with the velodrome estimated to save somewhere in the region of 517 tonnes CO2 per year. The project involved elements such as identifying fabric efficiency improvements, improved air permeability through thermographic testing, replacing gas boilers with electric Air Source Heat Pumps, new efficiency optimised LED lighting systems, flexible ventilation and heating, and flexible building services design allowing for future zero carbon technology uptake. Through efficient collaboration, the project delivered on an impressive design that aligns with Manchester’s zero carbon target. Today, the centre leaves a legacy of providing social, economic, and environmental benefits to the people of Manchester, and the wider British Cycling community.

Regeneration Project of the Year - Cardiff Interchange Building

Project partners – Rightacres, Holder Mathias Architects, Arup, McCann and Partners, Gleeds

Our Cardiff Interchange Building project for Rightacres, was shortlisted for Regeneration Project of the Year, a category that seeks to recognise the most outstanding work by a contractor in a regeneration project to enhance communities and provide exceptional buildings.

Our involvement on the Interchange project was to transform an old bus depot to a modern, open plaza hosting 500,000 sq ft of new space, including the 14-bay bus interchange, 318 build to rent apartments for the Private Rented Sector, 154,000 sq ft of office space across ten levels, 231 car parking spaces, and associated public realm works with biodiversity rain gardens.

The regeneration of Central Square now represents more than new buildings. The project legacy ensures the generation of new jobs, homes, and entertainment in Cardiff, empowering local communities, and providing new opportunities. Cardiff continues to be a vibrant city, full of life on weekends, with Central Square providing additional space for retailers, residents, office staff, and entertainment providers. Young generations have been motivated, ex-offenders have been given new possibilities, and a local supply chain has had consistent, long-term employment for nearly a decade.

Project of the Year (under £20m) - Knaresborough Leisure and Wellness Centre

Project Partners – Alliance Leisure, GT3 Architects, TA6 – powered by Alliance Leisure, CGP

Knaresborough Leisure and Wellness Centre in Yorkshire is up for Project of the Year (under £20m). The new centre delivers a range of wet and dry facilities, with a six-lane 25-metre pool - complete with pool pod - a leisure pool with flume and a 60-station fitness suite, there is also a sauna and steam room, a group fitness studio, an immersive group cycling studio, and a café. Outside, a children’s play area constructed from natural materials has been designed to blend in with the surroundings. Electric car charge points and bicycle storage have also been added to encourage sustainable travel. With high-efficiency building materials, air source heat pumps and solar panels, the all-electric centre is designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ assessment rating and will contribute to the council’s vision to have a net zero carbon economy by 2038.

Delivered by leading leisure development specialist Alliance Leisure, alongside ÌÇÐÄÔ´´vlog and GT3 Architects, through the UK Leisure Framework, the project was handed over to client North Yorkshire Council and operator Brimhams Active in December 2023.

The centre utilised offsite pool manufacture and features the latest technology to increase sustainability and reduce running and maintenance costs, with 160m2 of PV generating 38 kwh of electricity, LED lighting throughout, two air source heat pump systems, and pool filtration to reduce energy and water consumption by 40%. Carbon output has been reduced by more than 60 per cent, when compared to the previous centre.

It has also delivered significant membership growth for the council, up from 117 members in the old building to 1,322 after just two months in operation.
